Anthropology
I am a PhD candidate in social anthropology at the University of Edinburgh. Myresearch looks at how humans and more-than-humans experience nature together in Scotland, particularly at the Park Ecovillage Findhorn. This research attends to the frictions and various causes of human disbelief in sentient non-human beings, including tree beings and fairies, and the resulting consequences to ecosystems. Between my MA and PhD, I trained as an actor (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, RADA), worked on stage, screen, and behind the camera as a filmmaker in the US and UK. I incorporate theatre and film as part of my PhD research methodology, dissemination, and activism-outreach with interlocutors as a way to explore ontology and epistemology beyond the written language. Four short documentary films are currently in post-production exploring various ways humans and more-than-humans in Scotland connect and create a hopeful future ‘home’ together.
